Free! Folkloric Fusion Belly Dance Class

Folkloric Fusion is a modern fusion of these ancient dance traditions performed without the sequins and chiffon, but instead a group of dancers wearing layers of clothing and jewelry, dancing together like a flock of birds.

While the dance moves and gestures can be simple, this is intentional so that a group of two or more dancers can easily interweave like a moving tapestry. The simplicity of moving as one unit is not to eliminate the individuality of each dancer. Rather, it allows each dancer’s uniqueness to shine through and enhance the overall performance.

In Belly Dance, you will see all sizes, shapes, and weight together on one stage displaying a moving mosaic of beauty.

This is an amalgam of dance styles including folkloric Belly Dance, Spanish Flamenco, and Classical Indian…and beyond. This dance form is constantly evolving, and knowing the basic foundational moves will give you the primer you need to be able to add to your dance repertoire.

This dance style is also known for its improvisational aspect, utilizing simple steps and gestures in a continuous method to provide symmetry between the dancers.

The music can be quite different than used by the American Cabaret dancer. Instead of modern pop or classical, the music leans towards folkloric due to the repetitive nature of the phrasing.

And the costume, as previously mentioned, is another distinguishing element from American Cabaret. There are many layers, including Harem Pants, full cotton skirts, hip scarf, Choli, coin bra, tassel belt. Adornments include hair flowers, coin necklaces, bracelets or cuffs, Bindis, and rings.
