Bundle dyeing is the perfect way to start your dye journey and is a simple form of eco-printing. Using an array of natural dyestuffs we will arrange and roll flowers, plants and insects (!) within an 8" x 54" silk scarf or 22" x 22" cotton bandana (your choice) and then place it above hot steam. The naturally-occurring pigments within the dyestuffs will bind to the textile and create gorgeous dyes and organic patterns. It is a creative and fascinating way to appreciate the beauty, color and also the impermanence of flora and fuana. We will talk about what dyestuffs work the best, how to preserve the color as long as possible, and artistic approaches such as composition and technique. While our scarves are steaming, there will be time for Q&A and discussion. Come with curiosity, wonder and a good attitude and get ready to learn and experience something new!
