Learn to Cultivate Gratitude

Nonprofit Dawn Farm will present Gratitude and Addiction Recovery, Dr. Amy R. Krentzman, MSW, Ph.D., assistant professor at the School of Social Work and at the Center for Spirituality and Healing at the University of Minnesota and an adjunct research investigator in the department of psychiatry at the University of Michigan Medical School. The event will be held from 7:30 to 9 p.m. May 22, in the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Education Center auditorium.

Krentzman has conducted seminal research on gratitude, and will provide definitions of gratitude proposed by social scientists, present scientific findings about the benefits of gratitude, cover theories for the ways in which gratitude works in general and in recovery, ponder whether gratitude has a downside and lead the audience through gratitude exercises.

For people in recovery from substance use disorders, gratitude is a frequent topic in recovery circles, a recurrent theme in recovery program literature and a central component of recovery work. The good news is that with use and practice, a state of gratitude can be cultivated to grow stronger.
