Natural Awakenings Healthy Living Magazine

We’re Glad You’re Here

Step outside, smile at the sky and kick off your shoes. The happily long, sunshiny days have begun, and we encourage you to find frequent reasons to step away from daily routines for a quick blast of summer. Visit a lake, picnic at a park and dance in the rain to renew and refresh spirit and soul.

According to Livability.com, Ann Arbor wins big this year as the number one best place to live, ranked by key criteria. Our natural healthy living community embodies a gathering movement of natural ways of living that are healthy for people and the planet.

John D. Ivanko and Lisa Kivirist’s feature article, “Livable Communities We Love,” notes that livability is the sum of the factors that add up to a community’s quality of life. It includes built and natural environments, economic prosperity, social stability and equity, educational opportunity, and cultural, entertainment and recreation possibilities.

In Tree Town, we love our trees, planting more than a thousand per year. We’re also pleased by the aggressive climate action plan emphasizing community solar, using solar where possible as a municipality and helping residents with energy efficiency. All of it reduces our collective greenhouse gas load.

One of the beauties of Natural Awakenings readers is that you continue to help lead our community toward reclaiming more naturally healthy, balanced and sustainable lifestyles. Each of us plays a valuable role as we encourage others to join in. Together we stand for positive change.

With all kinds of wonderful summer events coming up throughout the city, be sure to fit in the Mayor’s Green Fair downtown on June 8, where enlightened community and municipal organizations will further educate us all in how to make our community even more sustainable.

This month we celebrate 12 years of publishing Natural Awakenings Greater Ann Arbor! Big heartfelt thanks go out to all of our readers, advertisers and distribution points as well as the amazing team working to make this free community magazine happen each month. Thank you, everyone, for supporting the magazine and what it represents—an empowering resource here to provide holistic health and wellness information, open practical opportunities for sustainable living and make our lives feel better.

Thanks, too, to all the great guys that deserve the happiest Father’s Day ever!
