Lifelong Detroiter and Health Advocate Continues to Champion Natural Wellness

Chichita Young, a lifelong Detroiter and health advocate, marks her 80th birthday and 40th year as a vegan this month. Known for her culinary creativity and commitment to macrobiotic living, Young has touched lives across generations as a chef, caterer, educator and senior patient advocate.

From 1998 to 2001, Young led Motif Naturals Vegan and Vegetarian Restaurant and Catering, in Hamtramck, specializing in plant-based meals and desserts. Her venue offered cooking classes and hosted events for health-conscious individuals, reflecting her belief that food is a foundation for healing and community. She also operated several ventures under the Motif brand, including Motif Design and Construction and Motif Decorating.

Young’s path to wellness began in the 1980s under the guidance of Dr. Jewel Pookrum, with whom she studied macrobiotic cooking and served as an administrative assistant for more than eight years at the Perfect Health Institute. A certified Bach Flower Therapist, Young integrates flower essence therapy into her holistic approach.

Today, she continues her service through Senior Patient Advocacy (SPA), supporting those navigating medical systems by attending appointments, clarifying procedures and offering compassionate presence. SPA aims to ease and improve the experience of medical care for elderly or uncertain individuals, helping them find clarity and comfort in their health journeys.
