Meditation Teachings Explore Nature of the Mind and Awareness
Jewel Heart Tibetan Buddhist Learning Center, in Ann Arbor serves as a center for the study and practice of Tibetan Buddhist philosophy, meditation and contemplative traditions. The organization provides educational opportunities that introduce ancient teachings on mindfulness and awareness while encouraging thoughtful exploration of the nature of mind in contemporary life.
The center operates under the guidance of His Eminence Demo Rinpoche, a Tibetan Buddhist teacher who spent three decades studying at the Drepung Monastery, in India. During that time, he trained in meditation, philosophical debate, memorization and Buddhist composition under the supervision of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. As the resident spiritual director at Jewel Heart, Rinpoche shares these teachings through the various Jewel Heart chapters and study groups as well as public talks, seminars and retreats, with a regular focus on meditation and mindfulness.
Rinpoche’s meditation teachings explore how meditation practices help settle and stabilize the mind. Mindfulness, one of the most widely practiced meditation techniques, encourages individuals to cultivate awareness of body, feelings, thoughts and actions. These practices offer practical tools for navigating an increasingly fast-paced and distraction-filled environment shaped by constant digital stimulation.
Through weekly Sunday talks and educational programming, Jewel Heart provides a space where participants can study and practice this authentic meditation tradition while considering how these practices apply to everyday life and personal well-being.
In addition, His Eminence Demo Rinpoche is scheduled to present a teaching on mindfulness and meditation at 7 p.m., April 13 at the Myomassology Institute, 26061 Franklin Road, in Southfield. The talk explores the nature of mind and practical methods for developing mindfulness.
