Simple Blood Test for Early Cancer Screening

Cancer remains a leading cause of death in the United States, often becoming life-threatening because it develops silently. Many cancers progress for years before symptoms appear, so diagnosis frequently occurs after the disease has spread. According to the American Cancer Society, early detection is critical, as cancers found before spreading have significantly higher survival rates.

A new screening approach offers promise. The Galleri multi-cancer early detection test uses a simple blood draw to identify DNA fragments released by cancer cells. These fragments create a biological “fingerprint” that may signal more than 50 types of cancer, including many without recommended screening tests. Patients receive results indicating whether a cancer signal is detected and where it may have originated. Research highlighted by the Cleveland Clinic suggests this technology may help identify cancers earlier, when outcomes are improved.

Healthy lifestyle choices can lower cancer risk, but some risks are genetic and cannot be controlled, making early screening a valuable tool.

Wycoff Wellness, in East Lansing, offers the Galleri test as part of its integrative approach to preventive health care, helping patients identify risks sooner.
