Motown Museum Postpones Spoken Word Competition

To safeguard against the spread of COVID-19, Motown Museum has postponed Motown Mic: The Spoken Word competition series until August. Lyricists, poets and writers can share their talents at Motown Museum for the chance to win $1,500 in cash. Held on Fridays, the event is open to the public and invites spoken word artists ages 16 or older to perform original pieces that are clean of profanity and a maximum of three minutes long. There is no cost to compete, and poets must register online by 5 p.m. the day of the competition.

Two winners from each round are chosen by a panel of judges to advance to the Grand Finale at the Garden Theater, where they will perform Motown-inspired pieces and compete for the grand prize.

Admission is $10/members and students $5/performers free. Location: 2648 W. Grand Blvd., Detroit. Register at BookWhen.com/motownmic. For more information, visit MotownMuseum.org.
