National MS Awareness Month

Walk MS 2022 on April 24 brings together passionate people for a powerful purpose: to end multiple sclerosis forever at William G. Milliken State Park and Harbor. Gates open at 8:30 a.m. and the walk starts at 10 a.m. A fundraising smartphone app, Walk MS, enables donors to deposit checks, text, post to social media and email from the phone’s address book. Join the movement to show that together, we are stronger than MS.

MS is a disease of the central nervous system that can cause symptoms throughout the body. It’s believed to be an autoimmune condition, in which the immune system mistakenly attacks normal tissues. In MS, the immune system attacks the myelin sheath that normally protects nerve fibers in the brain, spinal cord and optic nerve. As the myelin sheath is gradually destroyed, the resulting scar tissue (sclerosis) disrupts the electrical impulses between the brain and other parts of the body. By sharing their stories, we help people better understand life with MS and become inspired to do whatever it takes to change the world for people living with MS.

Location: 1900 Atwater St., Detroit. To register, visit ntlms.org/walkMS22fbe or Facebook.com/events/2393747167433575.
