Vegan Soul Food On the Avenue of Fashion

Trap Vegan, a new, Black-owned, 100 percent plant-based, vegan, fast/casual restaurant at the Avenue of Fashion, offers burgers, salads, fresh-squeezed strawberry lemonade and a variety of fresh fruit smoothies like the Incredible Hulk (with banana, pineapple, mango, spinach and kale), plus raw juice and organic tea from Tractor Beverage Co. They also have vegan desserts such as oatmeal raisin cookies and banana pudding. Owner Jasmine Raiford says, “The goal here is to offer plant-based food that is healthy, but also delicious, with some less-healthy options as well, like fries and tater tots.” Produce is locally sourced and the restaurant is focused on carryout.

While searching for a location, Raiford sought a location that was easily accessible to the local Black community, hoping to bring healthy options to an area where people would benefit most. She discovered Livernois Avenue in the neighborhood of Green Acres, where Black-owned businesses have long thrived. Trap Vegan has been welcomed in the neighborhood, an area where there aren’t many vegan restaurants, and they sold out of everything on their first day.

Location: 20198 Livernois Ave., Detroit. For orders and more information, call 313-340-2988 or visit TrapVegan.com.
