Try Samba Drumming

Deep Blue Water Samba School is a community samba drumming group based in Traverse City. It will meet at 6 p.m., May 4 and 18. New players of all ages and abilities are welcome and instruments are provided. Each class informs about, celebrates and participates in the samba music of tropical Brazil.

Samba has many similarities to African drumming music, such as polyrhythms and use of call-and-response. Getting into the rhythm with others is exhilarating. Drummers can feel the vibrations within their entire body, and there is a social component to this type of drumming that makes it fun and unforgettable.

The nonprofit Grand Traverse Circuit is a cultural arts, wellness and education center providing a quality venue for the community and facilitating experiential events by local and national professionals, artists, businesses, youth and elders. They also provide art therapy and counseling to those affected by illness or trauma including patients, caregivers and others in the helping professions.

Fee is $10. Location: 225 W 14th St., Traverse City. For more information, call 231-421-5963 or email [email protected] or [email protected], or visit gtcircuit.org.
