DROUGHT Juice Gains National Distribution

DROUGHT, an organic, fresh, cold-pressed juice producer, was started in 2010 by four Metro Detroit sisters from Plymouth—Caitlin, Julie, Jessie and Jenny James—with money raised through a Kickstarter campaign. After selling nearly 2 million iconic glass bottles of DROUGHT juice locally, they are focused on selling their organic juices and Immunity Potions at more retailers nationally.

The sisters recently launched a 30-bottle case called the Stock Box, which uses high-pressure processing technology to expand the juice shelf life from five to 45 days. While DROUGHT is still sold locally in Michigan, anyone can order the raw juices online.

A decade ago, organic juice bars weren’t common. Each bottle of DROUGHT is hand-poured in the company’s Berkley factory. A 16-ounce bottle contains three to five pounds of produce. No water is added, just pure fruits and vegetables.

Subject to availability, 50 to 75 percent of the produce comes from five Michigan farms. Jenny says, “We are genuinely going back into that local ecosystem and giving people fair prices on their produce, so we’re really trying to create a sustainable relationship.”
