New Life for Six Mile Strip

Detroit Pizza Bar has opened newly renovated building at 7316 West McNichols, in Detroit, funded in part by Invest Detroit through the Strategic Neighborhood Fund (SNF), a public-private partnership aimed at improving 10 neighborhoods throughout the city. They offer cheesy and vegan pizza, plus gluten-free options, wings and more. The pizzeria combines quick and full service, with the chance to enjoy pies on the building’s rooftop terrace during the warmer months.

Owned by Detroit-based Legacy City Group, the new pizzeria is an investment in the city. The developers are Akunna Olumba and Marcus Jones. Jones says, “The SNF has helped my partner Akunna Olumba and I not only open our business, but help make a difference on this stretch of McNichols.”

The Black-owned, 4,500-square-foot restaurant has already created 20 jobs and plans to create dozens more. So far, 100 percent of the staff hired are Detroit residents, with 97 percent living within two miles of the business. The $1.3 million project brings new life to a long-abandoned commercial building and intends to support local farmers.
