Cottage Food Law Permits Home Cooking to be Sold to Public

The Michigan Cottage Food Industry makes it possible for people to make a business out of cooking at home. Chef Paula Woods, of Pau la Carte, not only prepares meals at clients’ homes, but she also makes healthy baked goods. A great place to find her is at the Downtown Plymouth Farmers Market on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. through October.

A certified culinarian and personal chef, Woods is also recognized by the National Restaurant Association as a Serv-Safe and Allergen-Safe food handler. She has loved cooking for decades in childcare centers, sororities, nursing facilities and restaurants. At the market, Pau la Carte specializes in baked goods offering treats for people with food restrictions like gluten, sugar, dairy or eggs, as well as regular diets.
